The Irish are coming! Yes, Irish spread betting company, WorldSpreads, are expanding its operations to Edinburgh, Scotland. This is happening because another spread betting coming, CMC, is pulling out of Scotland. WorldSpreads is a big UK operation.

Spread betting allows you to trade on financial markets without owning any stocks and shares. And this is why it is so popular. It also gives you the advantage of not having to pay capital gains tax on profits. This is another form of online casino gambling, but dice and cards are not involved. WorldSpreads recently recruited Douglas Wood to help grow the operation in Edinburgh and will organize seminars to get more clients involved in spread betting.

Douglas Woods said “The average client needs support to get to understand spread betting. We’re not a massive brand like CMC or IG Index. We want to be able to offer a smaller, local market and personalized service”.

The history of WorldSpreads is quite recent. It started in 2000 in Dublin where it allowed investors to trade stocks, shares, foreign exchange and interest rates through the internet or by phone. In 2005 it opened offices in London and then listed on the London AIM market as well as the IEX market in Dublin. The founders are Conor Foley and Brian O’Neill, both from Ireland.
